For your need the patchbay described is fine!
However, why rob yourself of the option to mix several synths?
I would get a powered mixer, having sliders per instrument is so powerful plus it will allow you to hook up things differently than what you are describing now with send/returns (for instance).
Also; Mixers can be found for peanuts used everywhere.
I agree with this. I use an old Mackie 1202 VLZ to route different synths into the 4 inputs of my audio interface. It works great and lets me easily correct for level differences, and make slight eq and panning adjustments. I only record one mono or stereo channel at a time.
